Candidate for Circuit Judge

Vincent F. Cornelius was elected to serve as the 140th President of the 32,000 member Illinois State Bar Association for the year 2016-2017. He is the first and only lawyer from Will County to serve as ISBA president in the 142-year history of the Association. He is the only lawyer in Illinois history to serve as President of the ISBA, President of the Illinois Bar foundation, and Chancellor of the Academy of Illinois Lawyers. He has also served as the only Will County member of the distinguished American Bar Association’s House of Delegates.

In a 2018 Illinois State Bar judicial poll of Will County lawyers, Vincent received higher judicial poll ratings than his opponent in seven of the eight categories. He is the only judicial candidate in Will County to be recommended by the Illinois Civil Justice League. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers and Leading Lawyers. I have a perfect 10 Superb AVVO rating.

Vincent has also served on Governor’s Commissions, legislative committees, and university boards. He currently serves on two Illinois Supreme Court commissions. he has given dozens of keynote speeches to numerous organizations, including a keynote to the Illinois Supreme Court at its judicial conference.

Vincent is the principal of the Law Offices of Vincent F. Cornelius, a law firm founded in 1995, with locations in Joliet and Wheaton. Vincent began the practice of law in 1989 as an assistant state’s attorney, prosecuting thousands of cases on behalf of crime victims. He was also an attorney with the Law Firm of James D. Montgomery and Associates, in Chicago. He has tried hundreds of cases in private practice, before both judges and juries. Vincent has tried and won civil and criminal cases of every kind from the million-dollar injury case to the homicide case.

Vincent is a recipient of the Northern Illinois University College of Law’s Outstanding Alum Award and its Alum of the Year Award. He currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the College of Law’s Board of Visitors. He received the Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, where I was an Academic All American athlete. He is a recipient of the University’s 2006 Outstanding Alum Award, and he has served as Vice-Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees.

Vincent is a 2017 recipient of the Joliet Catholic Academy Alumni Association’s Career Achievement award. He attended elementary school and jr. high school in Joliet Public School District 86, where his mother taught and served for thirty-four years. Vincent has been married to his wife, Zina, for twenty-seven years. They are the proud parents of two adult children. He is a forty-year resident of Will County.
