REGISTERING TO VOTE IN WILL COUNTY

A person is eligible to register to vote if they meet the following requirements:

  1. They are a U.S. citizen
  2. They have resided in Will County for 30 days prior to the election
  3. They must be 18 years old by the date of the election. However, some 17 year olds may be able vote in the General Primary.

WHEN CAN I REGISTER TO VOTE?

Registration can be done at any point throughout the year, with the following exceptions:

  • Within 27 days before the election, registration in person or via mail is not available.
  • Within 15 days before the election, online registration is not available.

Anyone who has missed one of the above deadlines may still be eligible for Grace Period Registration and Voting or Same Day Registration at their Polling Place on Election Day. If you have any questions about registering to vote, call 815-724-0929 or visit the website of the Will County Clerk.

WHERE CAN I REGISTER TO VOTE?

Registration is available using one of four options:

  1. Register online using the Illinois Online Voter Registration Application (https://ova.elections.il.gov/)
  2. Register via mail using the Voter Registration Mail-In Application (Voting by Mail)
    • The application must be postmarked prior to the deadline for registering to vote before the election.
    • Ther first time after applying, an applicant must vote in person at their Polling Place or Early Voting location, unless they provided an approved form of identification with their application.
  3. Register in person at the Will County Clerk’s Office, a local Secretary of State Driver’s License Facility, or with a Registrar
  4. Register at your Polling Place on Election Day
    • Two forms of identification are required. The following are acceptable forms of identification:
      • Driver’s License
      • State ID Card
      • Utility Bil
      • Checkbook
      • Library Card
      • Credit Card
      • Birth Certificate
      • Social Security Card
      • Employee ID Card
      • Student ID Card
      • Insurance Card
    • One piece of identification must show your current name and address
    • One piece of identification may be a piece of mail postmarked within the past 30 days
